Downtown Dallas Skyline, circa 1950

Local antiques dealer Bill Dickerson made a unique find recently as he was preparing for an estate sale: A picture of the Downtown Dallas skyline looking from the levees, photographed by Dallas resident Edward J. Simmons in 1950.

The image, titled Cold Front, was entered in two photo competitions; the original entry forms were still on the back of the original mounting board. The photograph was submitted for competitions at the Dallas Museum of Art and Popular Photography Magazine.

Based on the information found on the entry forms, the photograph was hand-printed in Mr. Simmons' darkroom.

After getting a number of requests for reprints, Bill asked the Simmons family for permission to create reproductions of the photograph, and they were happy to give it.

We have prepared three different 11 x 17 versions of the reprint. Larger reprints are available as custom orders. The prints are on sale at LB's Antiques, Peak and Bryan Streets for $30 or through Dallas Creative by mail for $35 (click here to send your request).
